About the university:

Budapest University of Technology and Economics is also known as BME, is one of the oldest universities in the world as an institute of technology and is well-known for its rank and structure. BME is also the most prestigious university in Hungary.

The University of Budapest was founded in 1782 and initially was under the name of “Institutum Geometrico-Hydrotechnicum”. The university has eight Faculties which consists of different departments and institutes. All these four faculties are focused on educational results. The University offers wide range of programs which students can choose from, and the main educational language is Hungarian but there are also programs offered in English as well. BME has about 110 departments and 1100 lecturers and about 400 researchers’ cooperation all together in educating students.

 

World Ranking:

Based on QS ranking, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics has the world ranking of 701. It is also ranked as 850 based on the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). However in Hungary BME is ranked among the top 5 universities in the country.

Erasmus+ Smart Systems Integration

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the BME has a joint program called Smart Systems Integration which is awarded by Budapest University of Technology and Economics in Hungary, University College of South East Norway, and Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. This is an integrated program offered to MSc students for Electrical Engineering.

 

PhD programmes

All PHD programs at BME are thought in English. The duration of the PHD programs is 8 semesters. The language level required for most PHD programs at BME is B2 level. The programs offered for PHD degrees are as below:

The application deadlines varies based on the different faculties.

Application Deadlines: 1st April – 1st July and 1st October- 1st December

 

Tuition:

All preparatory courses and Bachelor programs: 3200 EUR/semester

All Masters Programs: 3500 EUR/semester

PHD programs: 4500 EUR/semester

Application fee: 100 EUR

 

Accommodation:

Private accommodation: EUR 400 per month.

 

 

Other living costs

  • Meal and additional expenses: EUR 170 – 270 per month
  • Health insurance: EUR 120 per semester

 

Duration:

BSc Degrees: 6-8 semesters

MSc Degrees: 4 semesters
