Applicants should apply for admission in the same major that they have studied, been graduated or are studying in university of their own country.

In order to obtain academic admission in Austria universities in any field of study, the applicant should have been studying the same major in his homeland. It is required to submit credentials of being student for students and being allowed to study for graduates and certificates issued by the related university and sealed transcripts in both cases to be able to gain study permit in Austria. Austrian universities do not accept just high school diplomas and ask for documents confirming that you have been admitted in university entrance exams in the intended major and degree. But it should be added that technical diplomas are admitted by university.

In order to be admitted in some majors as medicine, pharmacy, psychology and economics, the applicant should participate in the entrance exam including written exam and face to face interview.

After registration in language classes, credentials such as language registration certificate, university registration certificate, residence certificate and specifications of his bank account to central insurance department and request for student insurance. Insurance card will be sent in several weeks to the address mentioned in residence certificate by mail.

Iranian students will enter Austria with D visa which prohibits them from going out of Austria or entering Schengen Area. Therefore they should apply for getting one year residence card (credible all around EU). In order to receive this card, you are obliged to submit credentials such as university registration insurance certificate, language registration certificate for unofficial students, letter showing your residence address and your bank account balance confirmation letter as determined by municipality (Magistrat) in regard to your personal conditions.

Recent laws in relation to foreign students’ employment in Austria (enforceable from 7.1.2018):

Students in associate and B.S. degrees: 10 hours a week

Students of higher levels: 20 hours a week

This law covers unofficial students too.

Each job applicant is allowed to be introduced to a job department and ask for employment permit. Job department, too, is obliged to issue permit for the applicant student, without considering job market situation.

Work permit may be issued for a complete year.

Income level is unlimited.

Point: Austria academic visa is PBS visa; it means that it is based on one’s scores and if his scores reaches the determined level, he will gain visa and the officer’s viewpoint is not considered a major criterion for decision making.
